How fun! I love your blog banner! Our holiday traditions are many but one night each winter before Christmas we have our youngest son go to bed only to wake him up about 15 minutes later (no, he isn't actually asleep but we don't actually want to wake him up either but leave before he falls asleep) we wake him up and we drive around our town looking at the lights on all the houses. We have a Christmas morning tradition, Christmas Eve traditional...all sorts of stuff but I won't take up all the room!

One of our favorite holiday traditions is to gather around the table and make a graham cracker village (like gingerbread houses). Sometimes we actually do gingerbread, but graham crackers are sure a lot easier. Then they stay out until after the holidays.

How Fun! I love this time of year. I love driving around town looking at christmas lights on all the decorated houses. I would have to say that our favorite Christmas tradition is playing christmas music throughout the house and pullin gout all the cook books and making christmas cookies and candies. We make ginger bread men, sugar cookies, ritz and peanut butter cookies, Anise candy, mounds bars, buckeyes, the kitchen is full of wonderful smells and flour usually everywhere.

We usually decorate our Christmas tree the day after thanksgiving. So it is up for awhile, for as long as I can remember, Santa Clause has always visited our house on Christmas eve and he leave candy canes on our Christmas tree. It was always so neat so all the candy canes neatly displayed on out tree on Christmas morning. To this day he still does for my children.

Have a wonderful Christmas!

I love your blog and check it daily. My favorite tradition is breakfast together on Christmas morning. We used to gather at my Grandpa's, he would make all of us breakfast. He passed away a few years ago but we still continue with his tradition.

What a great giveaway! My favorite tradition is decorating Christmas cookies with my family. I just love using all of the pretty frostings and sprinkles. Not to mention that they're delicious!

Every year at Christmas - we were always allowed to open just one gift on Christmas Eve. We carried that on with our children - and even now they are in their late 20's and they still want to open one gift on Christmas Eve.

Elaine said...

Of course opening that one gift on Christmas eve, but even better was cookie making & decorating! I look forward to that every year. We started a long long time ago with my aunts & grandma - still sooooo much fun, but we don't have my grandma with us - we have her special butter cookie recipe though!! :)

ooh, good idea. my favorite holiday memory is celebrating christmas with my family on christmas eve. i used to always leave "santa" cookies and milk because he would come at night after we went to bed. so, when we woke up...we'd open our gifts from "santa".

Great banner to get everyone in the Christms Spirit. Wow you ROCK! More sweet candy. I'm in on this. Things I love at Christmas is shopping for the kids and watching them wake up and go crazy. To me that makes it worth everything. Before dinner we always go around the table and everyone has to say something they are thankful for that year.
Thanks for a chance.

Thanks for doing this!! My favorite holiday tradition is from my childhood. My brother and sister and I would sleep in the same bed on Christmas Eve night. The anticipation of Santa was so great, and we needed each other to fight the desire to go peek at the goodies. We couldn't go in the living room until every one was up. It was so hard!! Lol!

I am the oldest of three and there is 5 years seperating me from my brother and sister (they are only 15 months apart). So, this tradition is the only one that really made me feel like a kid at the same time that they were kids.

Merry Christmas!!

You wanted our favourite traditions...well, we have a few. First off, we don't do Christmas dinner Christmas day, we'll do it Christmas Eve... with the gift opening usually on Christmas day.. makes life easier on me. Also, we have our favourite goodies to make, Dream bars, Nanaimo bars, and my daughter's brownies. We also talk about what the real meaning of Christmas is (celebrating Christ's birth) and pray.

My favorite tradition started with my mother-in-law. She plays "Buster the Elf" and for 10 days before Christmas Buster leaves my kids little treats on the front porch. Buster rings the doorbell and runs. The kids are always so excited and a few times Buster has almost been caught!

Congratulations on all of the hits.
I love to decorate my house -- we have all of my side of the family over Christmas night and this year we have another new little baby to celebrate with, first baby in 8 years. Christmas Eve is another favorite time, with many past great memories, with my husband's family.

We only have a few, b/c we've only been married 7 years...but one of them is that we always go pick out a tree & cut it down. As we've added kids (now we have an almost 4 year old, and 15 mo. old), we've made it a family venture, being sure to take lots of pics! =)

We really haven't started any family traditions but I read in our paper today about what Christmas should mean and I really liked it. We should get our children one or two things (needs not wants) and the rest donate to help others less fortunate. It is all about giving and why it so much give me, give me, give me. Take the me out and give, give, give. I love it. It will make my children more aware of the true meaning.

Congrats on such a successful Blog! Funny thing about traditions ... I grew up with a few and then you met someone (and marry them) and find yourselves needing to agree on which ones to continue and of course creating your own NEW traditions. One simple tradition we've carried on is reading T'was The Night Before Xmas as a family. My Mom has kept the magazine from when we were little all these years and we use that copy to read from!

Love the snow and every years I try to make at least 1 snowman during the winter. It's a little tough since we don't get all that much snow and the Chinook winds take alot of it away before you can enjoy it, but I try.

Congratulations! One of our families favorite traditions is on Christmas Eve I would hide one present for each of the kids and they had to find it before going to bed. Why? you may ask, because it was a new pj's for them to wear to bed. They were always so excited to do this, plus it meant that they had on new Christmas pj's for all my Christmas Morning pics.

My most fun Christmas memories were those as a child. I grew up in an Italian Catholic family and we'd have huge get togethers with all of my relatives and cousins. My grandpa & grandma's home was made of large rocks and looked like a castle, so with all of the lights at Christmas time it was completely enchanting. Once all the older relatives passed on, our family all went in different directions and we celebrate individually now with just our immediate families. All I have left of those fabulous big Christmas's is my memories and 8mm movies:)

Someone else asked this the other day and I wrote the same thing. My favorite thing to do this time of year is go Christmas Caroling. I rent a bus and a bunch of us from our church get together and visit our shut ins and a couple of nursing homes to sing carols and share the true joy of Christmas. It is amazing. The elderly get so excited. Some sing, some cry and some even dance. It is a great feeling to see them so excited when they see us. It looks really cool for a bus to pull up in front of someones house and unload thirty or more people to sing Christmas carols to them! Great fellowship. Thanks for asking, I love reading others traditions. Have a great day.

Whooo hooo Awesome blog candy! And you doing the drawing on my Birthday! How cool is that! Well my fav tradition for Thanksgiving has always been going to my Grandmothers house for dinner where there would be atleast 30 people gathered but unfortunatly I havn't been able to attend in years beacause of us living out of state. But I still do the other tradition which is putting up our tree after Thanksgiving dinner! Thanks for the chance and I'll cross my fingers for some "birthday" blog candy! LOL

Congratulations! My favorite tradition when I was a child was going out in the woods at Grandma's & finding a tree and then decorating it. Of course, there were always many hand-made ornaments and the silver tinsel, which was reused year after year.

This is a past tradition. On Christmas morning before everyone else arose myself, my older brother next to me in age and my younger sister (there are 5 of us kids in all) would get up and lay beside the coal heater (age telling here)in the hallway just out of sight of all the Christmas surprises. We would lay there and try and guess what we each got. The warmeth of the heat from the heater and the love we shared and all the giddery exciment of the season, wow, just typing about it puts that warm glow all through my boby. Thanks for the smile. I'm sure out there somewhere there are moments like that still going on. Love your blog!!

I don't really have any Christmas traditions. Holidays are very stressful for me and tend to exacerbate my depression. I take it day by day - or by the hour or minute - and breather a sigh of relief about Jan 3. Hope that doesn't disqualify me!

I love your blog!! And all the great ideas too! Well our family tradition every year is to have a nice family dinner & open our gift on christmas eve. This is a tradition from my family.....
now my husbands family tradition is to wake up about 4am christmas morning and open there gifts. That's just too early for me. So we celebrate christmas eve!!

My favorite holiday tradition was going to Midnight Mass with my family and then stopping by my grandmother's for homemade cinnamon rolls and coffee or milk. It was like a mini family reunion... that was until two years ago when my grandma passed away...I do miss her, but I am lucky to have some of my favorite memories center around her. And I smile now when I remember her instead of cry...that's a GOOD thing. Anyway now I am looking forward to starting a new tradition, still in the brainstorming phase, with our brand new granddaughter! (*lots of smiles*) Being a grandparent just ROCKS! :)
Thanks for making me smile....oh, and for the chance to win something while doing it...LOL

Hi Sara, and congrats on reaching 30k visits!

My sister and I generally split hostessing duties on Thanksgiving or Christmas, with my local brother hosting Easter family dinners. Hardly a Thanksgiving goes by without us gathering to watch "Miracle on 34th Street" - and I'm hooked! I have 3 different versions on DVD!
later, alligator!

Christmas is that magical time of the year that brings out the child in me. One that we continue to do even though all the children are grown now, is that "Santa" still brings everyone a present and a stocking full of fun things. We enjoy that part before opening any gifts from each other on Christmas morning. Thanks for sharing!

Our favorite family tradition is to go to grandmother's house on Christmas eve. First we have dinner and then we tell the Christmas story reading from scriptures - the best part is all the grandkids dress in costume - as the kids have gotten older Mary gets passed to the next girl in line, same with Joseph to the next boy in line. For several years we had the same Mary and Joseph - and the new babies were dressed as lambs. Now we have no lambs but new Mary and Joseph. We sing carols while we tell the story. This is the fun part for the adults - the kids do it because they know what comes next. Games and such to win prizes that grandma has color coded wrapping for.... then the grand finale is a pinata filled with candy - the kids even as they have grown into adults always, always want to go to grandma's house for Christmas eve...

LOVE your blog! Congrats on 30,000 hits!! My favourite Christmas memory is when we were kids, we were always allowed to open ONE gift on Christmas eve, always after Midnight Mass. It was ALWAYS a new pair of pajamas from my Granny! After she passed away, my parents continued the tradition until we moved out!! I could sure use some new jammies now!!! LOL

Our holiday tradition was the Santa stocking. The kids always looked forward to their stocking, but they couldn't touch, empty to look at or open them (everything was wrapped in the scraps of wrapping paper) until Christmas Day night. It seemed to make Christmas last longer, after they opened their presents and dinner was servered we went visiting, the kids would always want to hurry home so they could open their stockings. They're now 34, 30, 25 & 23 and they still can't wait for their stockings.

When my sister and I were young, we wanted to establish a tradition for our own four-member family, so we started having a fondue dinner every Christmas Eve. We're scattered now, so it didn't continue, but I remember it fondly.

Have to say I loved your sketch challenge posts - WOW!

Thanks for all you do,

I love your blog candy and congratulations on your 30,000 visitor count. My favorite Christmas tradition was making homemade hard candy in all flavors with my daughter. Now my daughter asked me to send her the recipe and she and my granddaughter will continue that tradition. Its a lot of work but well worth the effort. Its also a lot of fun. Each batch made 2 cups of flavored candy and my favoirte was the licorice.

Congratulations on your 30,000 hits - you have a great blog.I live in the UK and one of the Christmas traditions started when my youngest grandchild was born. Her parents have been married twice and the two other sisters always go to their other parent on Boxing day so Natasha comes to me. She has even got a second lot of presents (supplied by her Mum) just like the others and it gives her parents time to themselves as well.
Keep up the good work and look after that baby in you.

Congratulations on reaching 30,000 - so cool!! My favourite time at Christmas is decorating the tree with Carols and Chrismassy songs on in the background. Hanging all our favourite ornaments without having Bing on in the background is unthinkable.. LOL! Each year I buy one 'expensive' ornament for the tree and it gets pride of place at the front of the tree!

My favorite tradition since having a family of my own is the placing of the angel on the tree. It's a cardboard creation one of my nieces made when she was about 5 (she's now 14) that my kids will not see replaced. One of them gets up on my husband's shoulders to put it on the tree -- then we have to reenact it a few times to get just the right photo!

Ok...traditions...first off I always hope it is under 90 deg. outside before Christmas day! That's just a yearly Christmas wish :) Well, we get together with family on Christmas eve and do the normal eating, gift exchanging, etc. Then -- Santa comes and all the kids gather around and get to sit on his lap and all that fun stuff :) It's so fun to see the kids smile and have fun. And of course we get funny pics of the adults taking their turn sitting on Santa's lap!

Traditions-we eat the same things on Christmas eve-each of us has a speciality and it's the only time of year that we have them. Makes it kind of fun, that once a year you get those things.

So much fun reading all these 'traditions'. Our kids always got new PJ's to wear on Christmas Eve and now I've carried that on to my granddaughter. I get to buy her new PJ's to wear on Christmas Eve -- always Christmas themed of course. I love picking them out, wrapping them and giving them their pre-Christmas present a few days before so they can be all washed and fresh for Christmas photos. That and cutting our own Christmas tree and baking pumpkin pie are some of our Christmas traditions.
